Little Helpers
These are my two grand daughters and helpers who are holding some of the entries for the show. I managed a second with the leeks, a first with the long carrots, and as there is not a class for parsnips I used them in the any other class and tray of four different vegetables and got another couple of firsts with them plus as a bonus the special rosette to celebrate 75 years of the show with best veg in the open section. I think they were as pleased as I was.

Are those your leeks there?, I remember you were trying some from seed, how did they get on?
Hi Liam yes they are my leeks. The ones in the photo are some Pendle Improved that i picked up at our NVS meeting last January when David Metcalf was giving a talk on how he developed the strain. The ones I grew from seed I did OK with, and won at a couple of local shows with them but they were a bit more variable than the Pendle and as i only got ten Pendle I saved them for my main show, but i must say they were well beaten by some more Pendle, but I learnt a lot growing them and hope I can do better with them next year
